1 English Chintz
An 18th century name for printed fabrics, made of all flax or flax warp and cotton weft. About 1754 the royal family of Great Britain countenanced these printed fabrics much to the dismay of the manufacturers of wool cloths. The " Manchester Act " of 1736 made it possible for such stuffs to be manufactured. -
